Candy Cane
I+Desserts launched a Christmas classics collection made in nougat in winter 2020. In the studio we worked on the project for the Candy Cane, a typical and festive sweet of this time. The goal was to design a tool for painting the red stripes, its most characteristic and identifying feature.
They gave us the measurements of the nougat and with them we shaped the sweet. Along with this, we developed a digital routine to work parametrically. The geometry of the spiral stripes was complex due to the double curvature of the part, but digital tools allow us a strict geometric control. This is how it must be to ensure the two halves for the painting match in their pattern.
The first prototypes were 3D printed in two halves containing the nougat inside. After testing and validating it with the client, this option was discarded as it was a rigid element and did not allow tolerances in the production. The second version of the tool had to take into account the lard bath that was added to the nougat when it was removed from the mold.
