This is an experimental research and a first approach on how to turn bio waste into valuable materials and products. It also explores the narrative around the material as it ends up being used for something related to it. For example, a cacao bean-shaped dish for dessert made out of cacao husks.

The reason for designing this tableware set is to close the loop by creating functional 3D objects out of this new source of material and offer a creative alternative to commonly used bowls, plates, glasses, ceramic and plastic dishes that are hard to recycle.

The desired properties for a product determine the ingredients and the different proportions needed. A flexible placemat will not have the same recipe as a stiff and hard coaster, for instance.
Combining different proportions of food waste powder with bigger pieces will give different properties to the final product. Tests were carried out experimenting with this and also different quantities of natural binders.
